The BCL PDF Converter is the best software for turning a PDF file and into an editable MS Word document for Apple devices. It conserves original document layout: tables, columns, lists, and fonts. The program’s drag-and-drop functionality is intuitive and will process your documents in no time. Here’s how to do it.

Basic Use

Open the BCL PDF Converter through the Launchpad, Dock, or the applications list in your Finder window.

Main UI

There are two options for selecting the file you wish to convert. First, you can drag and drop a file directly from a Finder window into the BCL PDF Converter screen, or, second, you can press the “Select a PDF...” button.

Select PDF Dialog

The “Select a PDF...” button will open a Finder window. Use this to select the file you wish to convert to Word format.

Select PDF Dialog

The screen will show you the real time progress of the document conversion. You don’t need to do anything until the conversion is complete.

Once the document has been processed, you can save it by dragging the image of the completed file onto your desktop, or click the “Save…” button.

Conversion done

The “Save…” button will open a Finder window and you will be prompted to designate the name and location where you want to save the file.

That’s it!

There are several main setting options; change these before choosing a document to convert. Access the settings by clicking on the cog at the top right of the initial screen. Use the slider to determine the quality of images taken from the PDF and placed into Word.

Main option settings

Also in the “General” section is the bookmarks option. If there are bookmarks from the PDF that you would like to preserve in the Word document, choose “Extract bookmarks from PDF.” BCL PDF Converter defaults to not using bookmarks.

Bookmark options

You can also choose whether you want output to be .docx, .doc, or .rtf (rich text format).

Output format options

If you have a scanned PDF document which has gone through OCR (Optical Character Recognition) process, the PDF would contain images with hidden text underneath. You can choose which of these you’d like to remove, if any, using the “Convert PDF files processed by OCR” option.

OCR options

There are two advanced options. The first, if selected, will stitch words together that, in the original PDF, are broken by a line break and connected by a hyphen.

Advanced options

The second will remove hidden text that may be behind other elements in the document, affecting formatting.

After your document has been processed, you have the option to easily share the file right from BCL PDF Converter. Click on the box-and-arrow button on the right side of the header, next to the Settings cog. From here, you can send the document via Mail, iMessage, and more.
